Reservation Roster

A Reservation Roster is an official record maintained by a degree college to ensure that the prescribed percentage of seats in admissions and/or posts in recruitment and promotion are allocated to eligible reserved categories. It helps the institution implement reservation policies in a systematic, transparent, and verifiable manner.

The roster normally records the roster point, category, sanctioned strength, appointment/admission made, date, and details of the candidate against each applicable point. Depending on the rules applicable to the college, categories may include Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and other categories prescribed by the competent government authority.

The actual roster points and category sequence must be prepared according to the reservation rules applicable to the particular college, state, university, and type of post/admission. A college should therefore not use a generic roster without verifying the latest government/university orders.

For a degree college, the reservation roster is particularly important because colleges may have to maintain separate records for teaching posts, non-teaching posts, and student admissions, depending on the applicable regulations. The roster should be updated whenever there is a recruitment, promotion, retirement, resignation, creation of a new post, or other event that affects the roster.
